Cilia and Flagella
Did
you notice that your cells are having trouble moving? They aren’t able to move around like they
should be. They should be like a
locomotive. But you may be wondering
“yeah, yeah, yeah, cells don’t have wheels.”
THINK AGAIN, BUDDY! Have you
noticed those hair like things around the cells. When these long threadlike organelles are
healthy, you have proper locomotion. If
flagella are numerous, shorter and organized in tightly packed rows, they are
called Cilia. Flagella are actually
complex cables of microtubules. Each
flagellum, would you believe it, consists of a circle of nine microtubules
surrounding two central microtubules.
This 9+2 arrangement is a fundamental feature of the flagella of eukaryotes, such as those on fast swimming protests and those
on the cells of sensory hairs inside your ear.
They are extremely important, and you can bet on that. For, they help your body remove foreign
particles. Want to buy a new cilia and
flagella?
