Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
Are those cells exporting incomplete proteins manufactured by
their Ribosomes to other cells? Is your body getting all the carbohydrates and
lipids it needs? If no, to either of
these questions, then you will need Endoplasmic Reticulum,
or ER for short. There are two types: Smooth ER, and Rough ER. If your cells are indeed receiving incomplete
proteins, then the manufacturing cells, which probably would be cells such as
White blood cells, are in need of a new Rough ER. The Ribosomes are located right on the outer
surface of the ER, where they produce the incomplete proteins. It is up to the Rough ER to complete the
production before sending the proteins to other parts of the cell that need
them, or to the Golgi Apparatus. The Smooth ER’s job is different from that of
the Rough ER. The Smooth ER is
responsible for providing membranes such as the Cell Membrane with lipids. Smooth ER also manufactures carbohydrates,
and stores carbohydrates and lipids.
Smooth ER has one other important function: it detoxifies alcohol and
other drugs. That is why Smooth ER is
mainly found in brain, muscle, or liver cells.
One size fits all.
